  Went to the doctor to be prescribed a preventive medication. Apparently the visit and tests weren't considered the "right kind" of preventative and I had to pay the full costs, according to my back and forth calls between Unity and the hospital I visited, so that was fun.

  Was also turned way from my primary physician's office because the system said I was "out of network." I had been to the same office two days prior with no issues. Was told that I needed to contact Unity/Quartz. Had to cancel appointment, went out to car and called Unity - what a waste of time and energy. The only info. I could get was from a inept customer service person who did nothing more than look up my provider on the same web-site I can also access and told me "well, you provider is in network...so....". Asked to talk to a supervisor. Of course none were available (so convenient to screen callers out that way, isn't it?). I said I would wait for one. Cust service person got snippy with me and said there was nothing she could do. I emphasized that I wanted to talk to someone who might have more information than what we both could see on the website. She told me that was not possible. After explaining that I had already driven two hours to see a physician that Unity indicated was in my network, her infuriating response was that I should talk to my employer about providing insurance that better suits my geographical needs. Really? I have this low-quality, insurance because my employer is a small organization and this is all they can offer. If I had thousands of extra dollars to spend on better health insurance, I would not be driving hundreds of miles to get my health care (to see a specialist, I must drive 5 hours). After 30 minutes of being told that no, I could not speak to a supervisor or anyone who might have more information about why I was now considered out of network by the provider, I gave up. Website still says my provider is in network, provider still says I am not. Next step: filing a grievance with Unity/Quartz accreditor: NCQA....maybe that will get a supervisor's attention.

  I have always received good service from Unity and do not expect any different care going forward. I have noticed a couple of negative reviews and see no complaints specified.
